Breakfast Special
A health and safety obsessed society has consigned to memory the popular misconception of the smoke-filled ‘transport caf’ with its grease-laden food, chipped crockery and encrusted tomato sauce containers. Far removed from the family-orientated motorway service station offering video games and bargain folding chairs, lying 1/2 a mile apart on the A18 between Brigg and Scunthorpe, Lyn and Claire’s wheeled vans are passed almost unnoticed by the casual driver perhaps wary of an environment outside his experience. Maybe the close-knit community in this self-contained oasis would not be welcoming to an ‘outsider’ — the fear of a hushed silence as the unknown traveler dares to enter the secret world of the trucking brotherhood.
